Birdland

Jim Caruso's Cast Party is a wildly popular weekly soiree that brings a sprinkling of Broadway glitz and urbane wit to the legendary Birdland in New York City every Monday night. It's a cool cabaret night-out enlivened by a hilariously impromptu variety show. Showbiz superstars hit the stage alongside up-and-comers, serving up jaw-dropping music and general razzle-dazzle.

Ali will be performing one or two songs at the cast party, and hanging out at Birdland to enjoy the rest of the show. Come join her!

Since then she’s played with Eric Clapton, Joss Stone, Herbie Hancock, Wayne Shorter, Corinne Bailey Rae, Wayne Krantz, John Beasley, Robben Ford…and the list goes on. What an AWESOME show!!! The band ROCKED the house for our one song, and for the rest of the night I got to hear and hang out with some of the best musicians in the biz.

The response to our performance was fantastic (including from the manager of The Roxy -- woo hoo!). Also -- in a bonus Hollywood moment, at the end of the night I was handing out flyers for my next show as people exited the club, and I gave a flyer to Steve Perry (original singer for Journey). Seeing him was a trip (and he looked great)!

BuFest

BuFest is a Green Event being held at the Paramount Movie Ranch (where they used to film lots of Westerns), and features tons of artists throughout the two-day festival. Some of the bands performing include Unwritten Law, Reel Big Fish, Eek-A-Mouse, Eve 6, and awesome local artists like Arlene Kole, Darius Lux, Manda Mosher, Mozella, Marina V, Ladysugar, Arden Kaywin and many more!

Performing with me on Saturday are my uber-talented friends Christopher Allis (drums, percussion), Orlando Sims (bass), and Felice Hernandez (background vocals). We'll be playing several songs from the new album, as well as a few old favorites and a choice cover song or two. I've also been working on a new lil something on my iPhone Ocarina -- we'll see if it's ready for Prime Time by Saturday...

I'm planning on hanging out for the duration of the festival, so if you decide to spend the weekend enjoying the music and the sun in Malibu, please come and say "hi!" It'd be great to see your smiling face from the stage AND after the show.

Autism Awareness Music Fest 2009

Ali has been chosen to perform as part of Fender's "Hooky Happy Hour" at the McDowell Mountain Music Festival in Scottsdale, AZ.

Other festival performances include international and national acts Blues Traveler, Gov't Mule, The John Butler Trio, The Wailers, JJ Grey & MOFRO, Grace Potter and the Nocturnals and others, as well as four local bands from Phoenix and Flagstaff.

Gypsy Den - All Ages Welcome!

Ali & percussionist Christopher Allis will be performing a 15-minute set of rockin' acoustic music as they compete in the next level of this showcase series.

In addition to honoring the top live acoustic acts in Southern California, the SoCal Acoustic Music Live competition raises money for charity. This year, all proceeds from the competition go to Hearts Giving Hope, a non-profit organization dedicated to improving the lives of abused and underprivileged children by providing them with positive outlets of self-expression and growth through music and visual arts.

The Empty Stage Theatre

"I Love A Good Story" is a storytelling and musical venue featuring a group of storytellers, writers and one featured musical guest.

The storytellers and writers are often faces and names recognizable (to those in the know) from their work in film and television. In Ali's first appearance on the show, Melanie Hutsell (remember Jan Brady on Saturday Night Live?!) read an incredibly poignant (and funny) story that brought tears to many eyes.

Julio Martinez is one of January's featured storytellers. Not only is Julio a talented writer - he is also the weekly host of KPFK Radio’s Arts in Review and is a theatre critic for Daily Variety. In an earlier life, he performed as a guitarist, arranger and music director for such singers as Al Jarreau, Sarah Vaughn, and Helen Reddy.

One year ago I lost my dear friend and bass player Wes Wehmiller to thyroid cancer. Not a day goes by when I don't think of Wes, whether it's listening to music and admiring an especially melodic bass line, or motivating myself to do *just one more* rep at the gym, or just pondering the preciousness, and sometimes, fragility of life.

I feel honored to be taking part in the first annual WesFest, A Concert To Benefit The Wes Wehmiller Scholarship at Berklee College Of Music.
